Review | Montagne Jeunesse Dead Sea Mud Spa Mask

Alina here with some opinions on the Montagne Jeunesse Dead Sea Mud Spa sheet mask. I have incredibly dry and sensitive skin courtesy of eczema, so I’m very particular about what I put on my face. I found these sheet masks while perusing my local Walmart and decided to give them a shot after checking over the ingredients.

Kaolin (natural clay) is the second item on the ingredient list. I was a bit worried at first because although kaolin is a common ingredient in many masks (think Queen Helene’s Mint Julep mask) it’s targeted towards acne or excessively oily skin - none of which describes my skin at all. So although I was aware of its drying properties, what changed my mind?

Yup. The packaging.

Despite the risks, using this sheet mask was a pleasant experience. I didn’t find the smell particularly offensive, but the goop from the Dead Sea mud was a bit messy to handle. And although the size of the sheet mask was a bit too big for my face shape, the holes lined up relatively well with my eyes and orifices.

I set the mask on my face for about 30 minutes (the packaging recommends 10-15 minutes, oops) and washed the residue off once I was done. Here are some of the immediate changes I noticed in my skin:

  • Reduced redness
  • Smoothness around the cheeks, forehead, and chin area
  • Slight tightness (I’m not a fan of this feeling to be honest)
I’ve been using this mask once a week for three weeks and so far the immediate changes have been the same each time. As for long term changes, I haven’t noticed any really. I feel like the effects of the mask last for a day or two afterwards. Perhaps you would get the most out of this product if you wore it the night before a fancy event or something. Or maybe I need to up the usage to two times week? It would be interesting to see how that affects the overall appearance of my skin.

Welp for under $3 I think these masks were worth purchasing, however don’t expect any miracles. DO expect some tightness after you rinse off the kaolin residue, and if you have dry skin like me lotion up as soon as you’re done.

Alright, I’ve delved into the realm of Western sheet masks. But now I really want to get my hands on some of the Asian brands and try my luck with them. Do you have any recommendations? And are there any other Western brands of sheet masks that you think I should try?
